What are varicose veins?
VARICOSE VEINS are veins that have become bulged caused by a leaking vein. Varicose Veins are swollen caused by an irregular collection of blood. Normal and healthy veins will circulate blood in one direction towards the heart when veins become swollen the circulation of blood flows backwards and enlarge even more. The most common symptoms of having varicose veins are swelling with pain, and weakness of the legs.
What is the VNUS Closure Procedure?
The VNUS Closure Procedure is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery which applies controlled radiofrequency energy to the diseased veins which will then seal and allow blood to redirect to healthy veins. When veins become varicose, the valves of the veins no longer meet properly and will cause the valves not to work. This allows blood to flow backwards and the veins enlarge even more. Since valves can’t be repaired, the treatment procedure is to redirect the blood flow to healthy veins.
How long does the Closure Procedure take?
The Closure Procedure can be completed in less than one hour of outpatient visit. Dr. Andres’ patients described very minimal pain feeling during the procedure. The procedure is done under local anesthesia on the treatment area only.
Can I return to work after the procedure?
Most patients who undergo the procedure can continue doing regular activities immediately.
What type of activities can patients do after the procedure?
The doctor usually advise that patients do a regular walking exercise to promote blood flow on your legs but to avoid doing very vigorous activities which may involve lifting of heavy weights or prolonged standing.
